The Health Ministry reported 55 new coronavirus cases yesterday, marking a bid dip in comparison to the past few days. The total infected cases so far in Kuwait is 910. Among these, 798 cases are being treated at hospitals, 22 in intensive care units and 8 are in critical condition.

The Health Minister, Sheikh Basel Al-Sabah yesterday said that the coronavirus crisis may last longer than was initially thought so, and may even continue into next year. The Ministry said this as it began a test drive in two areas currently under lockdown. “It appears that this crisis is lasting longer in the world and is likely to continue into next year. It is clear that we are still in the phase of the curve going upward strongly,” the minister told after taking a tour of the medical facility for expats at the fairground.

He also said experts are expecting coronavirus cases to touch three million towards end of April, and may double next month. Sheikh Basel urged people not to venture out unless absolutely necessary, as this is the only way to combat the disease. The Minister said that the situation in Kuwait is now under control, as the number of cases has not increased rapidly as in other countries.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry began to drive a test on some half a million expats residing in Mahboula and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, which were placed under lockdown a few days ago after a steep increase in the number of cases among expat workers, a majority of them being Indian nationals. In the past four days, nearly 400 cases were reported, with almost half of the total cases in Kuwait being that of expat workers.
