Nationals to replace expats in government jobs in Kuwait by August

10 February 2022

Kuwait government plans to substitute expatriates in government jobs with nationals, and this process will be ready by August this year.

The decision to this effect has been made by the Civil Service Commission, the employment agency in the country. It will be complete by August in government institutions, except teachers, doctors and service jobs.

Under this project titled “Kuwaitisation”, launched in 2017 in Kuwait, the aim of replacing expats in government jobs with that of nationals is available so that Kuwaiti youth can get jobs and contribute to country’s economy.

As per reports, out of total 4.6 million population in Kuwait, 3.5 million are expatriates. During the Covid job crisis, there were demands not to offer jobs to expats in Kuwait. A total of 18,000 expats were deported from Kuwait in 2021, as per figures by the Interior Ministry.

Kuwait recently began raids on illegal foreign residents, after having granted them repeated grace periods to modify their status.
