Kuwait to introduce new system for issuance of family - tourist visas

04 July 2022

Kuwait government plans to introduce a new system for issuance of entry visas for family and tourists.

Plans are on to implement a strict mechanism that ensure visitor’s departure upon expiry of the visa, and prevent renewal of the three-month visit, the Interior Ministry in Kuwait said.

As a preparation for the new system, with regulations in place to organize visa procedures, Kuwait has temporarily suspended issuance of visit visas.

Recently, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Ahmad Al Nawaf stopped issuance of family and tourism visas. The decision was largely because of the foreigners who have entered Kuwait on visit visas in the last months and have not left, thereby increasing the number of illegals in the country to about 20,000.

Foreigners constitute 3.4 million of the total4.6 million population in Kuwait.

In recent months, it has been reported that there is high request in Kuwait to stop employment of foreigners, coupled with accusations that migrant workers have caused a major dent to infrastructure facilities in the country, under pressure, amidst the economic downturn of the Covid19 pandemic.
