Kuwait International Airport to use iris, face scanners from next year

11 November 2022

The Ministry of Interior will begin implementing the Iris, Face, Hand Scanning and Electronic signature procedures at Kuwait International Airport and at borders from next year.  This is aimed to prevent deportees, including those involved in forgery from returning to the country.

The use of biometric technology will help improve passenger handling at the Kuwait International Airport. The biometric technology forms part of a digital strategy that has been planned at the airport, wherein passenger and flight information would be available upon facial recognition.

Besides better passenger handling, the system can also locate the whereabouts of passengers at any point of time, resulting in better airport services.

Kuwait International Airport has seen a spike in passenger traffic, following the completion of the sprawling terminal. The new airport terminal was launched as part of its 2035 development plans, hoping to push the country a step towards growing to be the global financial and commercial hub.
