Kuwait suspends taxi services to prevent spread of COVID-19

The Council of Ministers in Kuwait announced the decision to suspend the taxi services, as part of measures taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus, wherein a total of 208 cases have been so far reported.

Tareq A-Mazrem, a Government spokesman who spoke after a cabinet extraordinary meeting said that food supplies in Kuwait are at an excellent level, and the cabinet has asked Kuwait Supplies Company to cover any shortage in essential food items whether from within the country or abroad. He also said that authorities are preparing to make co-operative societies and supermarkets making online sales rather than having customers visit them, to avoid and restrict gatherings. Mazrem emphasized that imports are continuing by sea and air, and there is no shortage of goods.

He said the cabinet decided to approve an extra month salary to all Kuwaiti students abroad irrespective of whether they are on scholarship or on their own. The representative also said that the cabinet has decided to stop allowing journalist to attend press conference in person, and they would be broadcast remotely.

Mazrem appealed to the public to stay at home even after the curfew is over, and said that it does not mean that people can go out when the curfew is lifted. He emphasized that the government has not taken a decision yet, regarding making the curfew total, but he emphasized that the government is prepared to consider all options. He revealed that the defense ministry has established a field hospital too.
