Sri Lanka’s ambassador to the country, Othman Jawhar, praised on Tuesday Kuwait’s efforts in the international humanitarian arena, especially its humanitarian programs and development projects in the world, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

Jawhar said in a statement to KUNA after meeting with the Secretary-General of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) Maha Al-Barjas that the society plays a pivotal role in promoting international efforts to mitigate the effects of crises and disasters through its humanitarian and development initiatives.

He referred to the humanitarian works carried out by the Society in Sri Lanka, including the Sabah Al- Ahmad Center for Physical Rehabilitation in Jaffna, in addition to other relief and humanitarian works.

He thanked the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Society for its past and current efforts in Sri Lanka, adding that “the KRCS is an essential partner in our humanitarian efforts.” He stated that he discussed with Al- Barjas the society’s provision of medicines and medical supplies to a number of hospitals in Sri Lanka and the extent of their need for such medical aid through the Sri Lankan Red Cross.

For her part, Al-Barjas welcomed, in a similar statement, the visit of the Sri Lankan ambassador to the headquarters of the society and to see the efforts of the humanitarian association at the local and international levels.
