Kuwaiti authorities have given the go-ahead for the construction of a new airport in the northern part of the country, reported the state news agency Kuna.
This comes following media reports last week stating that the Municipal Committee Council of the Jahra Governorate is coordinating with the Directorate- General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on allocation of a site for the construction of the new airport.
However, the authorities did not disclose the completion date of the project nor the value of investment.
The setting up of the new airport comes in line with the studies and proposals of the fourth structural plan for Kuwait, stated the report.
Kuwait had in November last year announced plans to spend nearly $8.2 billion on 14 strategic projects aimed at developing the country's main airport.
The other key projects include an aircraft catering building and security services project.
