Unauthorized use of Night Calm tabs punishable by lawl

The Ministry of Interior in Kuwait has issued a warning against the unauthorized use, possession, promotion, procurement, or trafficking of Night Calm tablets.

In a recent press statement, the Department of Security Relations and Media noted that some young people have been abusing the drug, which is one of the trade names for zopiclone, a hypnotic substance used to treat insomnia.

The substance was added to Table No. 4 of the Anti-Psychotropic Substances Law 48 of 1987 by Minister of Health Resolution 376 of 2022, which was published in the Official Gazette (Kuwait Al Youm) Issue No. 1613 on December 11, 2022.

The Ministry of Interior further clarified that Possession or use of such drugs without a prescription is punishable by law under the aforementioned regulation.

It has stated that acute poisoning can result from the misuse of zopiclone, and that the law strictly prohibits the abuse, possession, promotion, trade, offer, or import of any psychotropic substances listed in its schedules.
