Kuwait’s Undersecretary for Educational Development and Activities Dr Ghanem Al-Sulaimani issued a public memo banning fast food products in schools, on Monday.
The new memo was sent to school principals and kindergartens, with Al-Sulaimani stressing the need to adhere to these rules, a report by Kuwait Times said.
“This is for the interest of our students, and in order to implement the regulation for a healthy feeding standards set by the General Food Authority. Fast food products contain large amounts of fats and high calories – devoid of nutrients, which causes serious health damages,” the memo read.
The move is part of the state’s efforts to prevent delivery companies from entering inside schools. “We should avoid giving unhealthy food to students,” Al-Sulaimani said.
