Kuwait to begin third-phase plan of return to normalcy

Kuwait will implement the third phase of the return to normalcy plan from July 28. “Reducing curfew hours to six instead of nine starting does not mean the end of the Coronavirus epidemic”, Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Basil Al Sabah said today.

He added that “no vaccine has been officially approved yet”, during a virtual press conference after a meeting of the Council of Ministers headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah,

The Minister of Health said that adherence to health requirements and related precautionary measures is the only way to prevent the risk of infection in any of the five phase plans until a treatment or vaccination is available.

He added that failure to comply with health requirements caused an increase in the number of infections among Kuwaiti citizens, sometimes by 70 per cent of the total number of infections recorded per day.

He explained that the partial curfew was supposed to be lifted completely after moving to the third stage, but in order “to preserve public health, we have seen the need to reduce the number of hours of the curfew rather than lifting it completely,” he said.
